Collaboration with Bixia for More Automated Electricity Trading

With increasing volatility in the electricity market, the need for market participants to react quickly to changing conditions is growing. With increasing volatility in the electricity market, the need for market participants to react quickly to changing conditions continues to grow. Sigholm is now launching, in collaboration with Bixia, an integration with the DA market (Day-Ahead market) in its software AbS (Aurora by Sigholm). This integration enables large electricity producers and consumers to place bids directly and to optimise their operations based on real-time market outcomes. “Integrations of this kind are important steps toward digitalisation and collaboration within the energy sector. The energy system is becoming increasingly complex, and it is essential to include all significant factors in an optimisation process that supports planning around flexibility and potential,” says Nemer Achour, Energy Systems and Strategy Consultant. “With over 25 years of experience in the energy industry, we have developed a modern trading platform that automates and optimises electricity trading. Through our collaboration with Sigholm, we are at the forefront, offering safe, simple and profitable electricity trading,” says Tobias Engström, Product Owner at Bixia.

The new integration in AbS has several important purposes:

  • Faster market response: Customers can now submit bids directly from AbS, enabling quicker reactions to market changes.
  • Reduced risk of errors: By removing many manual steps in customers’ workflows, the risk of mistakes is reduced, increasing both efficiency and reliability.
  • Better understanding of customer needs: Sigholm aims to continuously deepen its understanding of customer needs and challenges. This integration is a major step toward proactively anticipating and meeting those needs.
  • Promoting digitalisation: Sigholm introduces new and more efficient ways of working and acts as an active partner in customers’ digitalisation journeys. This is especially important in a time when handling increased volatility and flexibility is becoming ever more critical.

The initial integration has been developed in collaboration with Bixia, the balance-responsible party serving multiple energy companies and actors in the electricity market. The new solution is designed as a general module, where the only requirement for adding a new receiving party is an existing API capable of handling bid functionality.

The new functionality in AbS offers:

  • Create spot bids and block bids: Users can now create spot and block bids directly in AbS, supported by visualised electricity price forecasts and production data.
  • Simple bid submission: Bids can be sent to the balance-responsible party with a single click or via scheduling, simplifying and streamlining the process.
  • Result handling: Results from the DA market can be retrieved and integrated directly into production optimisation, allowing optimisation based on actual trading outcomes.

“This is a significant step in our ambition to automate and digitalise the district heating sector, enabling us to meet a future where fast and efficient real-time adaptation is essential. With this launch, we have laid the foundation for continued development, making us ready to handle the high technical requirements associated with integration with the ID market and ancillary service markets,” says Jakob Wall, System Developer at Sigholm.
